An exact analysis of a harmonically excited oscillator contacting a springy stop is performed on a digital computer. The agreement between the present theoretical and simulation results and the previous results using the iterative approach is very good. The effects of amplitude and frequency of excitation, damping, stiffness, and gap on the duration of contact, extreme values of displacement and the ratio of velocity of an oscillator as it leaves the stop and enters it are studied.
